Research Assistant

The AI assistant on this website — included with an active plan. Learn OrbitLab, choose a test, and get help writing your manuscript.

What it is

The research assistant is a chat you can open at starshipai.online/assistant. It is included with an active OrbitLab plan at no extra cost, and it does two jobs: it answers questions about OrbitLab itself, and it coaches you through the research — choosing a statistical test, reading your output honestly, and writing every section of a paper.

It runs on this website rather than inside the desktop app, so you can use it on a phone or a second computer while OrbitLab stays installed on your one licensed machine.

Signing in

Sign in with the same email and password you use in the desktop app. If you have not finished paying, or your plan is not active, the assistant will tell you which of the two it is.

It does not use a device
Signing in here does not consume the device your plan allows. Only activating the desktop app on a computer does that.
Forgotten password
There is no self-service reset yet. Message support on Telegram and we will help.

What to ask it

Pick a mode from the menu above the message box to tell it what kind of help you want. The modes change how it works, not what it knows.

Learn OrbitLab
A step-by-step walkthrough of a module, one step per turn.
Choose a test
It asks about your outcome, groups and design before recommending anything.
Read my results
Interpretation of output you paste in, and the sentence to report it with.
Writing modes
Abstract, introduction, methods, discussion, and a candid review of a draft.

Your conversations stay in your browser

Chats are saved in the browser you are using and are never stored on a StarshipAI server. That means they do not appear on your other devices, and clearing your browsing data deletes them permanently. The Export chat button saves a conversation as a Markdown file so you can keep your own copy.

The server records only how many messages you have sent today, to enforce the daily allowance shown in the assistant. It does not keep the questions or the answers.

What it will not do

The assistant is built to be useful without being dishonest, and it will refuse some things on purpose.

It will not invent references
It does not produce citations, DOIs or author names from memory. If a claim needs a source you have not given it, it says so.
It will not invent your results
Every number it writes into your draft has to be a number you gave it.
It will not write a study that was not done
It will edit, structure and draft from your material. It will not fabricate methods or findings.
